IMO 2020 Rules (19.12.2019)

According to a survey conducted by Mission to Seafarers jointly with Shipowners P&I Club, almost 90% of sailors are concerned about criminal prosecution for forced violations of IMO 2020 rules.

Two-thirds of respondents said that this influenced their attitude to work in shipping. The IMO recalled that from January 1, 2020, sailors may face significant fines, detention of ships, and even lengthy prison sentences.

According to Nautilus, most of all the sailors are worried about the prospect of being punished for violations that are not their responsibility.

Nautilus International stated that they are ready to provide comprehensive assistance to seafarers and, in the event of unreasonable persecution, urge them to immediately contact the union.
