Joint statement by the World Health Organization and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) on response measures to an outbreak of coronovirus infection - COVID-19 (16.03.2020)

The authorities of the flag state, the authorities of the port state and the authorities of the control regimes, companies and ship captains in the current outbreak should cooperate in order to ensure the possibility of boarding and disembarking passengers, cargo operations, ship calls at the shipyards in order to repair and survey and exit from them, loading stocks and supplies, as well as replacing crews.

The World Health Organization and IMO are ready to assist and support countries and the maritime industry in taking measures to address the challenges facing shipping in connection with the current outbreak of a new coronavirus infection.
